New Year Resolutions...

<--------- Times Square 1938
With New Year's coming up I am always interested in asking people about 'resolutions'. Are they making any? Have they kept any? Do they hate them? Love them?

I enjoy New Year's resolutions. Simply because I enjoy taking time to stop, reflect and perhaps make a decision to work on changing something that I haven't been happy with.

Times Square 2006

I used to worry about keeping the resolutions -- now I know that's not really the point. I think we all need prescribed moments that force us to stop and look at what we are doing with our lives. Are we doing the things that really matter -- for ourselves and others?

Sometimes resolutions don't even have to be that deep. Last year I made a resolution to keep my house clean for as long as I could -- I lasted almost 10 weeks straight with an immaculate house -- then I got busy and it became a mess -- but I definitely proved to myself that I could do it!!

Anyway, would love some thoughts on your resolutions, opinions for and against. And of course would love to wish you all a
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2007!!!!!

Lal, I'm sorry I never got round to seeing you this break, it was probably the most insane break I've ever had, because I won't be back in Vancouver for a year now, not until next Christmas, so it was insane. I didn't get to see a lot of people that I love, you including! But that's okay because we have some awesome NYC good times to reflect upon ( by the way.. post your pics! somewhere! ALL OF EM'!) But yeah, my resolutions this year is to get in serious shape, both mind and body.Work harder at school and keep in better touch with everyone I love at home. Also to eat breakfast because I never do. So there you go!
love you lots and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Resolutions, I guess that if I procrastinate long enough . . . there we go, I resolve not to procrastinate so much :) Let's see how long THAT lasts. HAPPY NEW YEAR to the whole clan.

A LAZY MAN'S REPLY - extracted from my blog;

I have been thinking about New Year's Resolutions.
I gave up Cigarettes, Booze and Wild Women years ago (well - maybe with the exception of Jenn) - so what's left?

Seriously -
Lose Weight - Get into Shape - Eat healthier - Give up Chocolate?
Sounds like negative billing - Geez!

I can be more creative that that!
Lets try the positive resolutions!
Volunteer more - Take acting lessons - Take some singing lessons - Audition more

Yeah - right!-

All the world needs is another old geezer taking tap lessons when there isn't a sane director/choreographer out there that wouldn't laugh their ass off at the mere thoughts of some bald headed old fat man actually thinking he is going to be taken seriously -
I mean let's be realistic!
Perhaps a gig at a nursing home!

No - I think I need to stretch further to make my New Year's resolutions.

Perhaps we should all draw the circle wider.

I think that we should let our friends make resolutions for us. Our closest friends and family probably see us more clearly than we ever will be able to.

I have no idea what their resolutions would be - but I would love to find out.

If they were important enough for a friend to make, they would be important enough for me to accept and strive to keep.

I think I would find it incredibly empowering to accept a resolution from a third party.

I think I would find it healing to be asked to make a resolution for a friend or family member.

But what if a friend said I should resolve to lose weight, eat healthier, get into shape or give up chocolate?

I think I would try harder to keep the resolve because just maybe they are telling me they love me and want me around for a few more years. If they didn't care - they might say nothing.

So - Here's my resolution:

I will solicit resolutions from my friends and family from here on in.
Some I will like. Some I won't. But all that will not matter much, because like Lalania - I'm too realistic to strive to keep them all.

I'm not big on New Years resolutions. Never have been. I'm pretty sure I've set one or two in the past, but I'm also positive I didn't stick with either of them. I constantly set goals for myself, regardless of the time of year. Some of those goals are big, some are small. I can't think of any for this year, except to get through this next semester. If I look farther ahead then that, it'll be too much; this semester is overwhelming all on its own! So I guess I'll just have to stick with the boring and basic, at least for now.

Happy New Year Lal! Well I usually don't have resolutions but over the last couple of years I've set out some new objectives for myself. I changed jobs, made some new friends, learned some new skills, started singing and performing, and just generally started to see life in a different way. Not sure what new thing I'd like to tackle this year. I think I'd like to do a lot more volunteer work like I used to do when I was in student council in school...
